Only with the eyes – Exhibition dedicated to Afghan women
Fifty years ago Afghan women could pursue careers in medicine, men and women mingled in Kabul’s theaters and university campuses; textiles and other mass-produced products were produced in factories outside the city. There was a government capable of managing and carrying out large projects giving a sense of hope towards the future. All of this has been obliterated by decades of wars. It is difficult to think of that Afghanistan, the great women’s march of 1980 and one of its girls, the designer Safia Tarzì, who already in the late sixties opened her shop in the heart of Kabul, mixing ancient traditions with Western design.
But today what happened to the medical students who graduated with the black cape and the touch on the head, the hostesses of Ariana Afghan Airlines, the players of the football team, the minister of health, the head of education in the countryside… We cannot give ourselves answers in this dramatic historical moment that Afghanistan is going through, but we can and must keep burning that flame of light and hope that crosses the hearts and minds of all Afghan women.
Thus the Cultural Association Arte per Voi does not turn off the spotlight on the dramatic situation in Afghanistan, and does so with an exhibition with the emblematic title “Only with the eyes. Dedicated to Afghan women “; which sees 20 artists as protagonists: each with their own artistic baggage, their own way of interpreting faces, situations, emotions, of that female universe so geographically distant but so close to our way of being mothers, daughters, grandmothers, aunts, grandchildren, in a single and simple way: Women.
The exhibition can be visited until Sunday 12 December, every Saturday and Sunday from 3 pm to 7 pm
