my rembrandt – art in cinema
While art collectors such as Eijk and Rose-Marie De Mol van Otterloo, the American Thomas Kaplan and the Scottish Duke of Buccleuch show the special bond they have with “their” Rembrandts, banker Eric de Rothschild puts two Rembrandts up for sale , sparking a tough political battle between the Rijksmuseum and the Louvre. The film also follows the aristocratic Dutch art dealer Jan Six on the trail of two “new” Rembrandt paintings: a nerve-wracking voyage of discovery that seems to be the fulfillment of his greatest childhood dream. But when he is accused of violating the agreement with another art dealer, his world collapses.
By following all these stories, MY REMBRANDT shows what makes the Dutch painter’s work so special and why his works touch people so deeply. After the success of the award-winning documentary THE NEW, the director of RIJKSMUSEUM (2014), Oeke Hoogendijk, once again tackles a great subject to tell us a story about and for art lovers.
Shows at 18.30 and 21.15. Ticket office on site (full 10 euros, reduced 8 euros)
