Il sol dell’avvenire – special appointment at the cinema

Appointment with “Il Sol dell’Avvenire”, the new film directed by Nanni Moretti:

The protagonists are Giovanni, a director less and less in tune with the world around him. He is making a film set in 1956, the story of the secretary of the PCI section of the Roman district of Quarticciolo who has to figure out how to react to the sending of Soviet tanks to Budapest. The producer of the film is his wife Paola, who however is thinking of leaving him, even if Giovanni does not know it. Giovanni is also writing a film based on “The swimmer” by John Cheever, and at the same time he imagines shooting a film that tells the forty-year story of a couple, with lots of Italian songs playing in the background…
